This project aims to improve cover crop establishment for organic farmers in the upper Midwest. Challenges persist with integrating cover crops into long-season corn, and traditional methods like aerial seeding and post-harvest drilling have shown inconsistent results, limiting adoption.
To address this, the project explores affordable alternatives by aligning broadcast seeding with routine weed control practices. Over two years, trials were conducted to compare broadcast and drilled seeding methods for four cover crops: red clover, annual ryegrass, winter rye, and tillage radish.
