Outcome of Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network Farmer-to-Farmer Program organic outreach

Certification in Alabama remains very low, largely due to confusion about the certification process, lack of historical certification programs, and a lack of a cost-share program in the state. This project reached hundreds of farmers in Alabama. Twenty farmers were individually mentored, 60 participated in an annual forum, and hundreds were given information or organic certification, compliance and production. Already there has been an increase in interest, with four farms becoming certified and more in the process of becoming certified.
